Message from the Chair

William E. Gillis, Ph.D.

Welcome to the Department of Management & Entrepreneurship website! If you are seeking an exciting and worthwhile degree, I invite you to explore our undergraduate and graduate opportunities. If you have already decided on a Management degree, I applaud you on your choice to join our department. Management is one of the most dynamic and central functions of any successful organization. Management involves developing goals and strategies, allocating resources, leading and motivating people, and ensuring the organization is moving in the right direction.

Our department offers two undergraduate degrees in management and entrepreneurship. The management major offers concentrations in general management and human resources management. Our department also supports a doctoral degree (Doctorate in Business Administration) in management. Our programs provide a solid foundation for starting or managing your career. Our graduates work in industries such as healthcare, steel, shipbuilding, hospitality, professional services, energy, power, wireless communications, and automobile manufacturing. The degree concentrations in management are among the fastest growing, and the Professional Readiness Engagement (PREP) Center in the Mitchell College of Business offers significant internship opportunities to enhance your academic experience. You will have the opportunity to apply what you are learning and find the path that is right for you.

We have a team of experienced and well-qualified faculty who are excited about working with you throughout your academic career. Our purpose is to assist you in reaching your career goals. As such, we are committed to providing you with the highest quality educational experience. We invite you to explore the world of management by taking our courses, interacting with professional managers, and engaging in lively discussions with faculty and other management students.

You will also have opportunities to become involved with extracurricular activities through various professional societies such as the Society for Human Resource Management—Student and Mobile Chapters, the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO), Alpha Kappa Psi, and Beta Gamma Sigma. Our students participate in a variety of exciting activities, ranging from the HR Games to the Coastal IDEA Challenge.

If you need further information, please let us know.

Best wishes for you and your success,
