Certification Requests

Recipients of graduate degrees can test for national certification with certifying bodies meeting the requirements set forth by that particular body.  Some certifying bodies will require you to set up an account with them first.  All certifying bodies will require a final transcript with the degree clearly stated.  MSN recipients do not need a copy of the diploma to apply for a certification exam.

Post Graduate Certificate recipients can also test with certifying bodies.  PGC recipients do not need a copy of the certificate to apply for a certification exam The student transcript will document the PGC and specialty option.

Examples of certifying bodies are:  ANCC (American Nurse Credentialing Center), AANP (American Academy of Nurse Practitioner), AACN (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses), NCC (National Certification Corporation), PNCB (Pediatric Nursing Certification Board).

Graduate and Post Graduate Certificate completers may email any forms required by a State Board of Nursing to the Certifications Office at concertifications@southalabama.edu. Please visit that state’s BON website to find the appropriate form(s) and to establish an account (as applicable).

Please note that the College of Nursing does not complete forms nor provide letters verifying completion of education if the degree has not been awarded.  Do not order a transcript to be sent to any third party (i.e., certifying body or state board of nursing) until after the degree/certificate has been awarded.

Please email all certification requests to concertifications@southalabama.edu.
